For girls, Co-education is a bane, not boon.

I would like to take you on a stroll and apprise you with persistent bias faced by girls in co-ed system, specially, when it comes to sports and athletics. Just take an example of some school in your vicinity or a top school based on co-ed in your nearest city. Visit them. You would find the ratio of girls to boys in sports abysmally low and utterly skewed in most of them. Most of the schools which send their teams at district or state level ( Volleyball, Football etc.) have only boys in them. As, if sports is some sort of arcane arena designed exclusively for boys. Our inability to fully capitalize the athletic talent of our girls in the incipient school years, devoid our country of many Mithali Rajs and Sania Mirzas. We need to develop a milieu in order to nurture the budding school athletes to hone their skills. We can’t afford to loose such a big talent pool any more. The onus of this execrable bias does not only lie on the shoulders of school administration. The social stigmas and patriarchy works overtime to normalize these type of biases which often goes unnoticed. As a solution, we must switch to single sex (girls school) right from kindergarten for our girls. There is more chance for them to sharpen and batten their talents to the fullest there in an unbiased enviornment. Some detractors of this idea, often come up with hackneyed logic that it makes girls exposed to vulnerability in future because of lack of effective communication skills with opposite sex. But, in the age of vibrant social media with everything under the control of their thumb. This argument does not hold water. They have many options with them to engage with whosoever they want to at their disposal. To undo the skewed ratio of girls in sports and to capitalize talent pool of our girls to the optimum. We must ensure their better participation and assure our commitment for this change by giving them ambiance where they can give utmost fly to their wings.
