Are You A Certified ‘Adarsh Bahu’? A University In Bhopal Wants You To Be!

All bachelorettes, here’s some news for you. Now you can have an add-on in your bio–“Adarsh Bahu Certified”, thanks to a special new course offered by Barkatullah University, Bhopal. That’s right, if I complete the course, other people’s parents be like “Arrey Rawal ji ki beti to Adarsh Bahu Certified hain (Mr. Rawal’s daughter is certified as an ideal daughter-in-law)!”

If you’ve collapsed after reading this please gather yourself. But yes you’ve read it right. At Barkatullah, will conduct a three month long short-term certificate course under the Department of Patriarchy for girls to make them adarsh bahus, as a pilot project under ‘Women Empowerment’ so that they can adjust psychologically and sociologically in a new environment after marriage. I guess it’ll provide internships at Rajshree Productions, where people can gain practical knowledge.

I mean seriously, you’re throwing the name of Women’s Empowerment into the dirt for this course? Women Disempowerment, rather. It’s the 21st century where Indian women scientists are conquering Mars, and making it possible for us to search for life on other planets. But, still, our society is hunting for sanskari adarsh bahus.

But this isn’t the only thorn pricking my side. All I want to know, firstly, is why the Adarsh Bahu course, without an Adarsh Damaad course? Actually, why the hell do we need any such courses? Secondly, who are these parents who want their girls to be certified? And who are these parents who seek such sanskari brides for their sons, irrespective of how sanskari their lads are? Everyone wants an adarsh bahu, but nobody cares whether the boy is an adarsh groom or not.

Why don’t we give a balanced upbringing to our children, kids of all genders, so that they are psychologically, sociologically and moreover logically and sensibly stable enough to accept, adapt to and adjust in any sort of environment, while still looking out for their interests.

As Barkatullah University has been calling it as their social responsibility to offer such a course, I’d like to suggest that they launch a self defense course instead, if they want to empower women against dangers in the world.

Like many other unsuccessful programmes which Bhopal’s university has left incomplete, I wish this rubbish course too ends up in a garbage bin.
