Equality Should Prevail In People’s Hearts, Not In The Courtroom Alone

अलैंगिगक लोगों का मार्च- प्रतीकात्मक तस्वीर

Do you think a mere court decision can bring change?

Yes, mere”.

I, being a citizen of India who has recently stepped into the field of Law, believe that Indian Judiciary is one of the most forward looking institutions we have ever had.

Our judiciary hasn’t proved itself in every possible way but has always ensured that every person in the country is equal and deserves equal rights and opportunities.

But why were we still struggling with an age old Colonial law?

Take for instance there are laws for murders, homicides and other crimes.

Did the so called laws make these crimes stop?

A Big NO.

The same goes with Section 377 in an alternate way.

Can you expect the people of India to accept Guy-with-Guy and Girl-with-Girl relationships, when the same Indian society struggles to watch a straight couple holding hands, hugging or kissing?

Just scrapping down Section 377 can only ensure us equal rights in the bedroom. What about equal treatment? What about acceptance? What about the crimes against us?

Only time can tell whether our nation will ensure us the proper “Equal Rights” or not.
