17-year-old Saleha has been breaking taboos surrounding menstruation by conducting awareness sessions with the members of her community in the slums of Govandi, Mumbai. She has also been at the forefront of a unique children-led campaign called ‘WASH4LIFE’. As part of the campaign, she pushed for the need for clean water and sanitation in her community. She was awarded the prestigious Savitribai Phule Award in 2017.
