In India, every second child is sexually abused. Moreover, there are children who have no knowledge about sexual abuse, nor are acquainted with the concept and meaning of it. Despite various social, cultural and legal efforts, the issue is of great concern. The magnitude and variety of this epidemic, malevolent phenomenon should awake every human being to stand up and fight against it. Thus, it makes a clear and logical sense for organizations like Our Voix Foundation to step up and fight against this phenomena in Indian context.
Our Voix, as an active, youth-led and non-for-profit organization, has been established to bring about changes to both the socio-cultural behavior of people and young victims. Its vision is to make childhood safe for children again and its major activity scope includes: public awareness raising, conducting research, development of resources and empowerment of sexual abuse victims. For the time being, holding awareness and empowerment workshops for children, principals, teachers, parents, and college students constitutes the organization’s basic part of activities. Moreover, development of online and offline resources to prevent abuse and make stakeholders aware of children’s rights is another major activity being carried out by the organization.
Further, the organisation has initiated campaigns such as #istandforbachpan, #learninglawswithourvoix, #musicwithourvoix, #dramawithourvoix as a methods to engage young generation with them to spread awareness about such a crucial issue. They aim to build capability of youth as change makers to be the voice for young ones.
Furthermore, it is strictly planning and working on empowerment of child sexual abuse victims to reintegrate them into the society and bring their lost faith and hope back. Our Voix has so far reached out and provided training to more than 9000 children. It has a volunteer base in London, Canada, USA and different states in India.
