Rajnath Singh Is A Seasoned Politician, His #MeToo Attack On Congress Was Unexpected

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has drawn flak from the activists for his #MeToo dig at Congress. While addressing a rally in Hyderabad Singh drew the analogy to attack the opposition parties who are looking for an alliance with the Indian National Congress (INC).

The senior BJP leaders warned the parties against the alliance with the INC and said that any party that has joined hands with Congress had been wiped out from the political arena of the country. He cited the example of the left parties that is under serious survival crisis. Singh said that in such a scenario where any party that joins hands with Congress runs the risk of vanishing form active politics, these parties would soon begin their #MeToo movement.

According to NDTV, Singh said, “Let’s hope all opposition parties don’t form an alliance with the Congress only to be betrayed later. They might be forced to start their own #MeToo campaign against the Congress.”

It was unexpected form such a seasoned politician to draw such weak analogy for political purpose. We all know it very well that the #MeToo movement started against the cases of sexual harassment at workplaces. It encouraged women to call out their harassers. It gave them the assurance that their story will be heard and will make an impact. As a result, many popular figures in politics, media, and entertainment industry had to step down from the powerful position that they were enjoying and perhaps abusing.

Using such a strong movement totally out of context only to attack a rival party was not justified, especially because it came from a mature leader like Rajnath Singh.
