Subramanian Swamy Upset With Govt’s Decision To Oust CBI Director Alok Verma

Not just the opposition but even senior leaders within the BJP have criticised Modi government’s decision to oust CBI director Alok Verma in the ongoing CBI row. Senior BJP leaders Subramanian Swamy has called government’s midnight order of sending Verma on a forced leave a ‘massacre’.

Swamy came out in support of Verma and vouched for his honesty. He later argued that the government is hell-bent to protect the corrupt. He probably wanted to stress that the central government was somewhere not keeping its promise of thwarting corruption.

Upset with the government, Swamy tweeted that “The players in the CBI massacre are about to suspend ED’s Rajeshwar so that he cannot file the chargesheet against P. Chidambaram.”

A bitter battle has broken between Verma and CBI special director Rakesh Asthana. While the crisis within the investigating agency began last year, now it has taken a disgraceful turn. Both the senior leaders are alleging corruption charges against each other. On the one hand, Varma alleged Ashtana of corruption in promotion and Sterling Biotech case. On the other hand, Asthana wrote to the Cabinet Secretary that Varma was interfering in his probes. He also accused Varma of stalling the raid on Lalu Yadav in the IRCTC case.

Government’s midnight decision came out after the rift between the two grew. It was a response to diffuse the ongoing tension.
