Thugs Of Hindostan: This Latest Hollywood Inspired Film’s Trailer Looks Disappointing

Famous thespian Dilip Kumar said years ago that Bollywood lacks skilled editors and good original stories. A good number of films have been produced after this statement from him. He had expressed his views in the context of the films’ quality at that time. We cannot contradict his grasp on the films.

We can always find elements similar to Hollywood movies in our Hindi cinema. Why do we get ‘inspired’ by the foreign films? If we take a critical look at the trailer of the yet-to-be-released film ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, we will find enough evidence that backs the veteran actor’s claims.

The film filled with naval fight scenes looks like a remake of the famous Hollywood series ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. The similarity between Johnny Depp’s character to that of Aamir Khan’s, cannot be overlooked. This is the first time such a parallel in a Bollywood film has surfaced.

From outfits to the make-up to certain nuances of Amir’s Firangi, almost everything about his character seems to be inspired by Hollywood actor Johnny Depp’s iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow, wrote, India Today. But the actor lacks originality and creativity in this newly produced film – which is unlike a typical Aamir Khan movie. It does not have the assertion and clarity that his previous films do.

He has earned enough admiration for the films he has produced in the past years. However, “Thugs of Hindostan” makes him a refined user of the Hollywood materials profusely. The film is set in the background of East India Company’s arrival in India. But, it does not have the exclusivity and uniqueness of his earlier widely admired film, “Lagaan” (2001).
