Saudi Arabia Admits Journalist Jamal Khashoggi Died Inside The Istanbul Consulate

Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi Arabian journalist, author, and former general manager and editor-in-chief of Al-Arab News channel. Khashoggi had continually raised his voice against the Saudi Arabian Kingdom through his articles on Washington Post. He was against the centralisation of power in Saudi Arabia.

On 2nd of October, he visited Saudi consulate in Istanbul, for some paperwork. But after some time he mysteriously disappeared. There was a CCTV footage of his going in, but unfortunately, there was no sign of his coming out of the Saudi consulate building. Prima facie the Turkish government had accused Saudi Arabia of killing him.

Saudi Arabia initially denied all accusations and claimed that Mr. Khashoggi had safely returned from Saudi consulate. Officials added that they were ready for proper investigation. But Saudi Arabia has now admitted that the journalist was killed inside the consulate, after being caught up in a fight with the officials.

Khashoggi’s disappearance case was primarily covered by the American media. But the American government is in the mood of defending Saudi Arabia now. Donald Trump had talked about proper investigation, but now he finds Saudi Arabia’s statement credible. Other western countries so far have remained close-lipped on the issue.

It’s high time for the allies of Saudi Arabia to take a stand against such a violation of human rights.
