India has the third largest population of HIV & Aids survivors in the world. Because there is a general lack of knowledge and a lot of taboo related to sexuality, the people living with this illness face prejudices and condescending behavior from society. AIDS is not just an illness today but a grave social issue which results in discrimination and stigmatisation and also affects the people closely associated with them.
On the occasion of the World AIDS Day, Karma Center for Counseling & Wellbeing in association with The Humsafar Trust is hosting an event, Ibtida, to create more awareness among the people and destigmatise AIDS as an illness. Ibtida is the Urdu word for a new beginning. By holding an event that talks about HIV and AIDS we intend to sensitise people towards it and break the silence.
What to expect?
Essentially, the event would have sessions which would focus on HIV Counselling, safer sex practices and PrEP and PEP medications. In addition to that, there will be speakers coming with positive stories where they would share their inspirational journey with us followed by a myth-busting session.
There will also be beautiful artwork put up by Veer Misra. He is listed among the top ten upcoming Queer artists in Delhi.
“What I try to show through my art is what I imagine as this incredible utopian future that I hope I can personally one day see through. It’s about getting through this incredibly volatile time we’re in until we reach this loving, cosy place that I know we’re capable of,” said Misra describing his work.
The attendees would receive souvenirs in addition to an overall wholesome experience.

The event will take place on December 1 at Vasant Vihar(F 7/7) in New Delhi.
