In a shocking revelation, Ratan Chandra Biswas, declared a foreigner by the National Register of Citizens, was found lying handcuffed in Assam’s Goalpara Civil Hospital. His deteriorating health condition as well as the treatment he received at the hospital once again show how badly National Register of Citizens has affected people, especially the proletariat who eat from hand to mouth.
Reporting this horrific incident, Sabrang India writes, “His condition is a bitter testimony to the ghastly conditions in Assam’s six detention camps, where over 2,000 persons are estimated to have been incarcerated.” Prior to this ghastly incident, five Bengalis were killed allegedly for protesting against NRC. This raises the question – why are Bengalis being killed and targeted in Assam? When our own Prime Minister boastfully unveils the world’s tallest statue named ‘Statue Of Unity’, it seems ironic. I wonder how this statue will unite us when in reality, we fight among ourselves.

Ratan Chandra Biswas received a ‘doubtful foreigners’ notice about two years and eight months ago, making him dangerously anxious. Not knowing what to do, he tried to communicate to the local police station through a middle man. He even bribed him with Rs. 500. But to his surprise, after three months, he was arrested and sent to a detention camp. Immediately after his detention, his health started deteriorating significantly.
Eventually, he was brought to Goalpara Civil Hospital. However, Biswas’ troubles did not end here; they only became worse. He was inhumanly chained to his bed while receiving treatment. An emaciated Ratan Biswas said, in the video (above), “I have studied up to class six. My grandfather’s name is in the 1966 Voters list. There is a small piece of land in my father’s name. Though I am an Indian citizen, I have been forced inside a detention camp for the last 2 years and five months.”
