Swiping right is easy. But for queer people, what happens after you ‘match’ is a whole different story.
Sometimes, you swipe right with the knowledge that the person on the other side probably doesn’t know the L of “LGBTQ”. And, well, how many of us get a well-rounded lesson in gender and sexuality? Other times you swipe right with bated breath – maybe you’ll hit the jackpot as a woman-loving-woman, and your match doesn’t even think twice about the fact that you’re transgender. Maybe – staying optimistic as ever – you’re going to find a fellow queer person to have those long 2am conversations about all and sundry. Or maybe you get a question like “So you’re a boy, but you look like a girl?”
We spoke to 4 trans and non binary Indians about their experiences with online dating. One of the biggest issues that came up is that spaces like these have long been extremely exclusive. But the time for change is now.
With its campaign #AllTypesAllSwipes, Tinder India, in association with Youth Ki Awaaz, hopes to open up the world of online dating to all people. So, whether you’re agender, non-binary, transfeminine, transmasculine, or any another gender alignment, dating doesn’t have to be a minefield of questions and doubts.
