The Karnataka by-election results have done good for Congress and JDS, which, at the end of the election process secured a majority victory.

The increased number of seats has certainly revealed the popularity of the Congress-JDS combine. The recent outcome, with a 4:1 victory for the combine, will have a deep bearing on the state’s political scene. The voters’ turnout remained between 61% and 81% at all the five consequences.

In Shivamogga, BJP regained its year-long honour again by registering a win with the difference of above forty-seven thousand votes. However, political analysts dismissed it as an unimpressive victory for BJP.

Since BJP won only seat, its senior leaders alleged that the Congress-JDS alliance used power, money, muscle, and even liquor for their triumph. The politicians were indicating in a very marked manner directly at the transformed trends in the southern state. The by-polls were significant as the coalition partners contested together. They even termed it as a prelude to May 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

They have now called for a secular grand alliance against the BJP at the national level. Congress fielded candidates in Jamkhandi and Bellary while JDS contested at Shivamogga, Ramanagara, and Mandya under an electoral understanding.

As many as 54,54,275 votes were cast at about 6,450 polling stations. The BJP fielded its candidates in all the five constituencies whereas the Congress-JDS alliance worked out a seat-sharing arrangement.
