Many couples move base and many mothers give birth to their children in the United States so they can be citizens and stay on in the country. Donald Trump wants to take this citizenship away because he thinks ‘anchor babies’ (children of immigrants) are unsafe for this country, even though their parents come to the United States looking for a better life and better opportunities.

Why Does Donald Trump Want To Get Rid Of Birthright Citizenship?
Donald Trump wants to take birthright citizenship because of the perceived problem of immigrants bringing in their children or having their kids in the United States, thereby abusing the law. Trump once said, “Don’t forget the nasty term Anchor Babies. I will keep our Country safe. This case will be settled by the United States Supreme Court!”
When he talks about anchor babies, Trump refers to the children of immigrants and how they make the country unsafe. He wants it taken away so that immigrants won’t be able to bring/have their children in the United States to become citizens.
Is It A Problem?
Anchor babies are in fact, safe for the United States. In this article by the Pacific Standard Magazine, writers argue that “…repealing birthright citizenship is rarely an effective solution for an overburdened nation.”
Donald Trump exaggerated when he blamed anchor babies and their parents of making the United States unsafe. Trump has bigger problems to solve and taking birthright citizenship away isn’t the most effective solution to making the United States safe again!
The Real Reason Immigrants Come To The United States
Several members of my family are immigrants and in reality, it’s a hard situation to deal with. Many people accuse us of being the reason why the United States is so convoluted as a society. Either that, or they think that all crime in the United States is our fault.
During his presidential bid, Donald Trump categorically said, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
Those living in the country don’t care or think about the reasons why immigrants arrive. I have asked many of my family members why they choose to live and work in the United States and every single one of them says the same thing, “Because we don’t have a lot of opportunities where we come from, so we sacrifice our lives back home and come to the United States, so that our sons and daughters can have a better life than we did.”
Anchor Babies Benefit The United States
Anchor babies actually benefit the United States by paying their taxes and thus generating revenue for the country. Amanda Taub, writing for Vox, states, “Simply by virtue of being born here, these new US citizens will be required to pay US taxes for their entire income-earning lives.”
If it weren’t for anchor babies, America would’ve been poorer than they already are. The United States owes a lot of money in debt and believe it or not, by paying their taxes, anchor babies are actually helping America economically.
How The United States Should Actually Look At The Situation
The United States is being helped by anchor babies but Donald Trump doesn’t believe so. He continues to fill his supporters’ heads with misplaced information, saying that both anchor babies and their parents are ‘unsafe’ when they’re actually helping build the country.
The danger is, many people believe such lies when they don’t know the actual truth. Anchor babies and their parents are the same as any other people in the United States. A certain race shouldn’t be blamed for the United States going downhill. Many immigrants and their babies have contributed a lot to the United States and are not the sole reason why the United States is unsafe.
