In Indian politics, the tussle between leaders of the same party to win the throne after winning the election is not new. In the current scenario, people of all three states (Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan) had witnessed such battle among top leaders of the respective state.
In Rajasthan, top leadership appointed Ashok Gehlot as an upcoming chief minister. He has sound command in the party as well as supporting with supporting parties. He belongs to backward Mali caste which has a good impact on politics in the Rajasthan. Sachin Pilot was also in the race of chief Minster but Caste dynamics and less experience went against him. However, Sachin pilots did not seem to be entertained by the decisions. After massive loss of 2013 assembly elections, he strengthens the party in grass root level. However, he will be the deputy chief minister of Rajasthan.
In Madhya Pradesh, a similar race was there between Kamalnath and Jyotiraditya Scindia. However, after some initial dispute, Jyotiradiya agreed and accepted Vice chief ministerial post.
In Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel will be the next Chief Minister. It seems to me that on long run giving thrown to old guards will affect the credibility of Congress party. New faces like Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia have huge popularity amongst youth. Most of the voters in these states are young. people voted congress for a change. So appointing leaders on bases of caste equation will degrade Congress’ agenda and promise. Rahul Gandhi itself is a young leader. Its high time for him to take some bold decision.
