Ahead Of 2019 Elections, Why Has UP Minister Savitri Bai Phule Quit BJP?

Many politicians would have been quietly pondering at what actually led Savitri Bai Phule to resign from the party which she had so far believed as the most disciplined political organisation. If we reverse Newton’s principle into ‘every reaction has an action’, the immediate cause of her exit from the party becomes pretty clear.

If this bespectacled, experienced lady leader had consented to leaving the party, it must have been a decision taken after much consideration. In the ever-changing political situation, there was ample talk over her sudden opinionated move.

Something seems right about finally embarking on such a drastic change. What had been recently reported was that the MP from Bahraich district resigned from the party’s primary membership saying it was trying to create divisions in society.

Flaying both the central and UP governments, she expressed she had taken this step with deep perturbed heart. She pointed out the party leaders talked of changing the  Constitution and a plot was being hatched to abolish Reservation. Her condemnation was that the party aimed to run the country with the Manuwadi concept. She claimed that Lord Hanuman was a Dalit and a slave of Manuwadi peoples thereby joining the row over the statement that the deity was Dalit.

Did this sort of action erupt in the political sphere owing to excitement, anticipation, or nervousness? Was this only limited in view of the UP state elections? All that overtly matters, at present, is to keep guessing at her next political step before the 2019 Parliamentary polls. She alleged that Dalits and other backward classes were being called monkeys and demons. She had earlier raised questions on the BJP leaders dining at the Dalits’ houses and termed Jinnah as a great personality causing profound embarrassment to her political party.
