Social Media And 2019 Elections

Modi and Social Media

Elections 2019 or the new T20 match that is to be played by the voters and the various political parties together . According to a report of ET times  more than 5 crore new voters are entering into the pitch , the political parties have also started searching for various options that can influence the young voters towards them . Among all the options available social media has appeared as the one stop solution for all parties. Among all the political parties of India , Aam Admi Party was the first to use it for its campaign in Delhi during the assembly elections of 2013. According to another report of CNN 2014 elections was the first election to be fought on social media .

Here a question might raise on the mind of people , how can few tweets , shares , polls on social media influence people to such a extent that they go on to vote for a particular party. We all come across many post in a day related to different topics .  Usually our timeline displays maximum content according to our preference and interest. For example If I start search more content relating to congress , then our timelines displays more post and ads related to congress . It happens due to AI or Artificial Intelligence .Before 2014 elections Jio had not even entered into the market , despite that social media played a key role in the victory of BJP and honourable Pm Narendra Modi .

But this time elections will be more adversely affected as due to Jio , the rural voters will also get influenced . Due to Jio major section of the voters are having direct access to social media . Among political parties Congress was among the few parties to announce that tickets in Madhya Pradesh will be given to leaders having 15000 likes on facebook and 5000 followers on twitters . BJP has a special team lead by Amit Malviya have been assigned to create nearly 1lakh whatsapp group to effectively spread the message and achievements of party.  With all parties gearing up for the tech savvy battle , in the state BJD has also not stayed back it has recently revamped its IT Cell .The HeiJau programme run by Ex Kendrapada Mp Baijayant Panda , is also a product of Social Media . T

The biggest advantage that social media gives to different political parties is that it reaches to a large mass of people with minimum resources , attractive posters , videos are usually able to attract a voter more than printed leaflets . With various tools like boosting available parties are able to reach a good chunk of voters by minimum expenditure. It saves money , human resource and has a time bound effect . It also gives us the report of the campaign which helps us to analyse and improve our further campaign. In a state like Odisha which has its majority of voters in the form of farmers and rural voters , it will be difficult to analyse its effect but no party will like to not try and tap the young voters of both villages and city through Social Media .
