Why I Don’t Understand The Concept Of Arranged Marriages

This is an image that depicts arranged marriages in India

Arranged wedding meetings in our “Indian Society” are so damn funny, albeit, history says, the concept is going through ancient times.  Parents expect their “young ones” to choose their life partner just  by looking at a photograph or by meeting once. How can one scrutinize a person’s compatibility just by one single meeting or by looking at their picture. How can it be feasible.

Naturally, if you are meeting someone for the very first time, you will give a good impression. It sounds so bizarre yet it’s true! The worst part is, one one hand, we talk about 21st century, how the women of our country are empowering day by day still we keep that “age-old notion” by asking questions like, how well they cook. How can we expect our children to go through this weird process and prejudice a person just by looking at their photograph. Why can’t we be more open minded in our approach as parents to let our children take their own time  while searching a future partner.

It’s high time, we Indians should grow up, and start realizing that,”Marriage should be the secondary motive of one’s life and our children should have the liberty to choose their life partner”.
