Is The Show Khatron Ke Khiladi Worth All The Hype?

The stunt-based TV reality show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 9’ is terrifying. As far as I am concerned,  I do not enjoy the display of a dangerous competition which includes beastly creatures, who by all means will hurt participants. To be defensive is their nature, by default. What type of entertainment is the show trying to deliver?? The programme caught our attention when Sreesanth threw a tantrum after performing a task. Is it really making the entrants more confident, controlling and competitive?   It is not unusual for participants’ resolve to waiver in effectively executing the typical tasks with insects or animals. During the performance, the momentary dread can be easily noticed on their faces.

The participants do not appear free from the pressure of the fear looming large upon them. They can feel the fear sending chills down their spine every passing moment of the task. For them, it’s almost impossible to fight the natural instinct of horror dwelling within their minds and hearts.

The participants’ fright does stretch out equally in carrying out the risky performances. No matter how hard they try to deny the fact, there is no denying that they do complete the task in a state of urgency driven by fear.  When they are finally done with the task, they take a moment to, realize the perils involved in the competition. Nevertheless, their utmost yearning for action without any resistance is worth watching and applauding.

What television viewers are ultimately getting in the name of jigar pe trigger is only fear, distress, stings, and sufferings of the participants. The stunt master, Rohit Shetty, sees no trouble in the completion of the complicated tasks. He continues making the few contestants with filmy background perform cruel stunts in the far-off lands while banking on their fear and distress for publicity. Dangerous insects, deadly creepers, poisonous reptiles, creepy crawlies, and ferocious wild animals leave the young performers unsettled. Even if they are reluctant, they are bound to perform the task as the format of the show does not allow them to quit.

Khatron Ke Khiladi, season nine contestant  Vikas Gupta, who also got the mastermind tag after his stint in Big Boss 11, had on one occasion revealed that the selected tasks not only look dreadful on the screen but are in reality very tedious, uncomfortable and agonizing to perform. That was quite obvious from a contestant, Bharti Singh’s, facial expressions in Argentina where cold temperature riled up the entire team of participants.

The risk factor remains associated with the show. Half the show’s appeal ends as the tasks are methodically out of participants’ reach. However, they cannot consider quitting the show in any case. Only one contestant, Avika Gor has been eliminated from the show so far, after she lost the phone booth task to Ali Gani and Jasmin Bhasin. Those contestants who reach the danger zone, manage to succeed in subsequent feats and stay. Thus, the circus, disguised as a show, continues.
