My Suggestions To Help Consumers Identify Non-Food Animal Products

Many animals are being killed and harmed for leather, cosmetics and other daily use products. Most people do not want to use products that are made by killing or harming animals or the products that are tested on animals, but there isn’t any specific sign to identify such products.

Companies that make these products know that if given the information, people will typically not buy them. So, these corporations have learned to provide a list of ingredients that, to an untrained eye, seem harmless. Moreover, there are thousands of technical and patented names for ingredient variations. Many ingredients known by one name can be of animal, vegetable, or synthetic origin.

Vegetarian products can be identified by the V-label and meat products also have different labels to identify alternative varieties. But this is only limited to food products. There is a need to help consumers identify other non-food animal products as well. It can be achieved if companies making animal-tested products or any other items made from using an animal product are instructed to use a specific symbol/label (designed by the Animal Welfare Board of India/Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change) on their products.

This will make it easier for people to identify these products and those who don’t wish to use these products can easily skip them while shopping. This initiative will also be helpful to discourage the use of products made by either killing or harming animals or testing them on animals.
