This Republic Day, We Dance And Sang With The People Society Has Forgotten

January 26, 1950.

This day has been a remarkable one in the history of our country and its independence. It was the day when the Constitution of India came in to effect, and has since been celebrated as Republic Day.

This day is celebrated all over the country. Functions are held in schools on the day, as well as in the days before January 26. The story of Independence, the formation of the Constitution, and patriotism or love for our country is depicted through dance, drama, painting, and other activities. On the day itself, a grand  ceremony is organised every year in the capital of country. While a large number of people gathers at Rajpath to witness the ceremony, the nation together watches the live telecast at home.

But have you ever wondered the true meaning of ‘Republic’ is? This word originated in Latin (respublica), where “res” meaning ‘entity’ or ‘concern’, and “publica” meaning of ‘the people’ or of the public’. So, standing true to meaning of the day, Team Being Social could not think of any better way to celebrate than with the occupants of an old age home in our area.

Team Being Social – एक नई शुरुआत celebrated the true spirit of the day with the elderly and some enthusiastic volunteers. We all woke up that morning with a shared feeling about the true meaning of republic: ‘the concern of the people’. More than 25 of our volunteers went to an old age home at Manorma, near the Ginni Motor workshop, at Aara Garden, Bailey Road in Patna, to make their hearts feel young again, and celebrate these forgotten golden heroes. One fun activity was all of us dancing on the track like “Oh Meri Zohrazabi”.

We had gathered there to make them feel warm on a cold Saturday morning, showering them with love and care, and to see them smiling brightly. The team initiated the celebrations with a meditation session to make everybody feel refreshed and relaxed, after which there was dance on retro track, followed by “Bhule Bisre Geet”. There were over 33 senior citizens who enjoyed the activities, celebrated being who they are, and celebrated the day with immense joy while playing games. They blessed the team who took the initiative to make their Republic Day special and memorable. It’s something we’ll always cherish.
