If There’s One Thing That Can Boost India’s Development, It’s Better Teachers

Graduation plays pivotal role in every youngster’s life. However, during the journey of graduation, they do not get exactly, what they really deserve, do they?

In addition, having mere infrastructure and outstanding dress code for professors or faculties in colleges and universities, do not provide the core values and knowledge that students and youngsters need at their workplace.

I have observed personally, students are taking admission in colleges and universities by seeing mere outer surfaces of it, rather than finding core values or skills, which may help them to achieve their dream or goal, which play pivotal roles in their holistic development.

I want to shed some light on the condition of professors and teachers that we have in most of our colleges and universities. A professor is considered to be an embodiment of knowledge and skills, however, we are deprived of professors who exhibit such skills. Furthermore, in Indian universities, one becomes a professor or member of faculty by the virtue of degress like an M. Tech and PhD, but everyone knows it’s cakewalk. Most faculties and many professors are not even able to speak English effectively or show ample soft skills and thus, they feel uncomfortable while speaking two words before any august gathering. Partly, soft skills contribute a lot in the intellectual development of an individual.

I have always believed in“only a good student can become a good teacher.”

Again the question is: why do we not have good and competent professors or faculty members?

I tried my best to find an answer to this. Those who are good students and may make good teachers, do not opt for this field while some people who wish to teach, don’t have the so called ‘jugaad’ to become professors. It is a grim reality that in India that to do something, you need a reference, there is not one way where a person could apply directly without any reference. In addition, when we talk about the feature to upload your resume on the websites for different colleges and universities, that is just a feature, nothing else.

To add more, India is not becoming a developed country because we do not have skilled man power which results in the boosting of economy of any nation. Skilled manpower is the outcome presenting itself in the form of skilled professors or teachers, which unfortunately, is rare to find in the colleges or universities of India. For instance, the superpower status of a country like the Unites States can be attributed to its skilled people.

In the Indian education system, professors just emphasize more on theoretical part rather than the practical part. ‘Bookish knowledge’ is of no use, professors just mould the mindset of youngsters in such a way that they forget the real essence of education and crave only high percentages.

With this post of mine, I reckon our universities and colleges should come forward to have good professors and faculties, who could impart the knowledge and values that students really need to excel at their workplace. As the quote goes,“It is better to become master of one, than becoming jack of all trades.”
