What Is The Real Status Of Women In India?

When it comes to women, India, in the recent years, has been in a state of irony. Be it women’s equality or sexual harassment, the story remains unchanged. Time and again, we find that women in India and their loved ones have to go through the harshest of ordeals, and even threats, to get justice.

A minor girl from Jammu’s Bakarwal community gets raped and an entire lot, along with some political leaders, march in defense of the accused.

Another minor girl gets raped by a powerful politician in Unnao, her father is beaten to death for fighting to get justice for his daughter. This politician runs scot-free for a year, without the police filing any charges against him.

Some religious evangelist (baba) is found guilty on rape charges and an entire mob of his disciples is out on the streets in support of their guru, to protect him from the cops, leading to a violent ruckus, and even casualties.

A group of nuns in Kerala protest against a bishop, an alleged rapist, and the rest of the bishops come to his aid, and people start calling him a reincarnation of Jesus. Even the police and the courts don’t do shit, whereas the convent expels these nuns.

If women come out and muster enough courage to point out the person who sexually abused them, they get slut-shamed or threatened. Some even go to the extent of calling it a publicity stunt.

So, I think it would be safe to conclude that India doesn’t really value or respect women. They just have their deities in their religious books and synagogues for a purpose completely meaningless. It is a shame to accept what we, as human beings, have become.
