Youth Ki Awaaz is India’s largest, impact-driven, social justice media platform. We’re completely crowdsourced, which means that on YKA, anyone and everyone has the space to speak up on and address important issues impacting our world.
Every Youth Ki Awaaz user will now have the option of entering their location on their profiles. This information will always be private, and visible only to you. Below are answers to some of the questions you may have about entering your location data on YKA.
Youth Ki Awaaz is a community driven platform
And a very important aspect of being a community driven platform is knowing how diverse your community is. Your location data helps us find out exactly that, and make efforts to engage you better, and grow the community where it needs to grow.
Additionally, the YKA community is spread across India and the world, and very often, members of the YKA community write about local issues and problems that are specific to their cities and states. Time and again, YKA reaches out to its community with writing opportunities that are specific to a state or city. Your location data will help us reach out and engage with you a lot more.
We will never spam you and only reach out to you if there’s a crisis in your state or city, and we believe you might be able to write about it. For instance, we may reach out to you if there’s a big political, social or cultural event happening in your city, a calamity or a disaster, a regional political, social, entrepreneurial or cultural interview you may be able to conduct, and so on.
Tagging stories
In the near future, Youth Ki Awaaz will give its users the ability to tailor the content they read and write, based on the location they’re from, and the topics they’re interested in. This will give all YKA users the ability to see stories from their location – and further their ability to act on it, respond to it, or do a follow up on it – thus amplifying their impact.
Will my location data be misused?
No. YKA will never use or sell your location data for purposes not explicitly mentioned above. We will only use it to reach out to you for local stories, or to serve them to you. And all of this, at all times, remains an “opt-in” feature of the platform.
If you do not wish to share your location with us, you’re absolutely free not to. And if you ever decide not to communicate with us for regional stories, all you need to do is remove your location data from your profile.
Do I need to share all my location data?
No. Putting in location data is optional and you can always decide to tell us only your state, and not your city.
