Badla is an Indian adaptation of a Spanish movie, Contratiempo. But is it Indian at all? I mean there is a girl driving the car in the movie. Blasphemy.
In the original movie, Contratiempo, the lead actor hits a deer and all hell breaks loose. (Don’t believe me, ask Bhai) Badla is an adaptation of the thriller but fails on some serious accounts.
The entire movie lacks a nationalist fervour. If it were entirely Indianised, the main turning point of the movie would be the protagonist hitting a cow and not a deer. Oh, deer!
Let’s right the wrong and make this movie truly Indian.
The hero hits a cow. The entire case is about the holy cow. No one is interested in other two bodies. The dead man was just another farmer. No one cares because it’s a daily affair. And the dead girl (again changing the gender) in hotel room was just some MPs wife. No one cares except Arnab but he gets paid to focus on cow as well. 4 witnesses have come up. Everyone claiming they saw cow getting killed in their dreams. Police accepts their testimony. There are protests and conferences trying to convince the police and public that the hero is a Dalit or a Muslim and hence he hit the cow. The advocate is spy from “Random-Hindi-Name Sena” member and has come to secretly lynch the hero but trying to get his true caste and religion out of his mouth. Hero finally tells the truth that he is neither Dalit nor Muslim, he is a Keralite and was just hungry. Now he doesn’t want to have a beef with anyone. Quite literally.
Meanwhile the dead kisaan wakes up and hangs himself again only to realize that no one actually cares about his death. Or his life for that matter.
Dead girl wakes up and calls Arnab and then shoots herself. Death was better than his obnoxious voice.
The hero is finally publicly lynched.
Film has a happy ending : No one gets convicted for the lynching.
