The Accidental Prime Minister And Others: Films Or Propaganda?

A few months ago, I saw a documentary called ‘Triumph Of The Will, which was directed by Leni Riefenstahl. It was about the 1934 Nazi party congress and rally held in Nuremberg. The documentary aims to glorify the decision or the idea of nationalism and anything that was done by Hitler. So it was not just a documentary for the purpose of entertainment or information dissemination, it was a means of spreading the propaganda of Hitler by using these type of tools. After watching this documentary, I just thanked myself and our country that in the era of technology, at least this type of propaganda has not been spreading in our country, which is praiseworthy. But I was wrong. it now started in India, and in reality, these types of tools are very very effective. Like if we see the current days’ issue of ‘THE ACCIDENTAL PRIME MINISTER’, not a majority of the people in India knew about that book on which this film is based but now everyone knows about it because of the film. In an interview with the Indian Express, the director of that movie Vijay Ratnakar Gutte said, “I don’t want the movie to get political. I want people to see this movie as a movie.” Which is right, but some political party wants to make profit of it and they also tweeted the trailer of the movie from their official twitter handle. This step clearly shows how much they could stoop down to. But it’s not the only thing, wait wait…A film on surgical strikes is also coming. We can easily hear in the trailer of that movie that someone is narrating the trailer, and unfortunately it’s not an army officer or the army head, which it should be. Obviously the ruling party is going to milk the shit out of this act of valour by the Indian army. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6a7YHDK-ik The “naya Hindustan”, which doesn’t have employment opportunity for its youth. After all, there’s also another propaganda film coming and till now only its poster have been launched. The film named as ‘P.M. NARENDRA MODI’: it’s a biopic of our lovable P.M. I hope in this film people would see the journey of Narendra Modi from the ‘chai wala to the prime minister’ of India. Definitely, this film will come before the general elections in 2019. I hope after watching this film most of the people will connect with him emotionally and will press the button of “kamal” at the time of voting. These three films will definitely be tax-free at least in the BJP ruling states. Also, these films will definitely affect the 2019 elections. I don’t think that any film should be politicised by any political party and should not try to manipulate people. We should not get influenced by these type of films because the reality is always different from what we see on screen. Film is the medium through which anyone can easily connect himself/ herself to the masses and now some people are trying to profit out of it.
