‘My Father Earns While My Mother Just Works’

Comedy | Salary Structure shows debt owed to Mothers & Homemakers II Joieta Roy & Abhineet Mishra

What does your father do?
My father is a doctor/teacher/engineer/driver and so on and so forth…
And your mother?
Oh! My mother is a housewife, she doesn’t work!

Many of us grew up believing or were conditioned to believe that just because our mothers don’t step out like our fathers and work at offices, they don’t have a job. In reality, a housewife wears several hats during the day, and her contribution to the wellbeing of a family, or the economy for that matter is seldom recognized. Would you like a job, where you work tirelessly, without any break. Even worse, you don’t even get paid.

275 million women in India in the working age are unemployed, but working at home in various forms for free and without any acknowledgment. We comfortably ignore the fact, that if we were to hire a housekeeper for all the chores that our mothers or wives do in the family, it would cost us a fortune.

‘Salary Structure’ is an outstanding comedy satire in which Joieta Roy strikingly yet comically conveys the message that why it’s often said that we cannot repay our mothers’/homemakers’ debt.
