Poem: ‘Make A Note, And Remember When You Vote’

“Make a note, and remember when you vote”

He promised a head for every fallen head,

“Pak Snubs India”, the western headlines read.

He said he would implement a uniform civil code,

“Hindu Rashtra”, the RSS conclave echoed.

He pledged, in Kashmir, militancy will cease,

the numbers are plunging, as if returning to nineties.

He assured every penny would be brought back,

in 2017, the deposit in Swiss doubled its stack.

He guaranteed 2 crore jobs every year,

then hid the employment data in fear.

He announced Ganga would be cleansed,

on the bank, everything else, but water gleamed.

“Sabka saath, Sabka vikas”, once he exclaimed,

“Sun Mulle Sun”, later his spokesperson screamed.

“Make in India” he went selling a dream,

never revealing only hatred did it mean.

He promised you the sun,

the moon,

the beaches,

and the stars,

and, even 15 lakhs,

and he failed,

and lost,

but his hunger for power survived.

So he wept,

facing all,

and cried foul,

and then, he howled,

drawing up the face of evil,

until democracy was in peril.

That’s all he has done,

and exactly what, he, in future, will.

Make a note,

and remember when you vote.
