Folks, Be Wary Of Social Media Pre-Election Stunts!

Hello friends, countrymen, and, of course, my political leaders!

I hail from Assam, and I am a concerned citizen of India. I am not writing here to campaign for any political party, nor to influence anyone, but to express my concern towards the application of digital media for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are to be held in April this year.

Beyond being the largest democratic nation worldwide, we have serious concerns regarding the development of Indian media. It is our responsibility to express our concern by voting, but it should not be out of any kind of party or media influence. As a responsible citizen, it is my responsibility to make sure that the casting of votes should not be under any political duress.

900 million people have so far registered to vote in the upcoming elections, and they should not waste this power they have. As the largest democratic nation, every citizen’s vote is going to be crucial. Our votes collectively will decide the fate of the country for the next five years. Nowadays, the majority of the youth, and in fact elders too, engages in social media-election-mongering, by sharing triggering videos and memes. It’s important that they stay wary of the political stunts of the parties who leverage this engagement for their own advantage.

As per a survey, fake news and propaganda take no time to spread and go viral instantly on social media. Many parties may take undue advantage of that, to further their agenda and to sponsor fake news and reports about their parties. Sometimes even celebrities help politicians by promoting them, by reaching out to their own fans, which frankly is quite unfair.

It is our duty and responsibility to make citizens, and particularly the youth, help and develop the nation and to uphold the democratic spirit of the nation.
