5 Important Life Lessons That I’ve Learnt From Arya Stark Of Winterfell

With just a few days to go to the release of the finale season of one of the most loved series, Game Of Thrones, the excitement has reached the zenith for all its viewers, who can’t stop contemplating who will be sitting on the iron throne. It is one of a kind series that has kept us at the edge of our seats, like no other.

For an audience, that is so used to seeing everything predictable, GOT came as a knight in shining armour (quite literally maybe) and stole our hearts. I remember crying when Lord Eddard Stark was beheaded, for who would expect something so unexpected. But the anticipation, or the uncanny lack of it, is what sets GOT apart.

The series in itself teaches us a lot of things, sometimes simply through its dialogues. Here’s my list of takeaways:

  1. The Red Wedding teaches not to trust anyone, and the consequences of betrayal.
  2. Cersei, a character that might be hated by many, teaches us that however inhumane a woman might be, a mother will always fiercely love her children, no matter what.
  3. King Joffrey’s character (I was so happy to see him die) truly personifies that everything must have limits. The axe forgets, but the tree remembers.
  4. Love has no boundaries, even if you don’t agree with it. Be it Cersei and Jamie, John Snow and Daenerys, Targaryen or Missandei and Grey Worm (even though the first two might be unacceptable for us).
  5. Tyrion Lannister’s character does reiterate that goodness and cleverness will eventually hold more relevance compared to appearance.

This list can go on.

But here I want to lay more emphasis on my favourite character – ARYA STARK!!

She defied stereotypes right from the beginning, she stood out as the most resilient. What she went through was more than enough to pull anyone down to the abysmal depths of depression. But, she bounced back from all adversities and executed all her plans to avenge the deaths of her loved ones.

Here are a few things about her that stayed with me:

You Can Go Your Own Way And Still Lead

Remember when she had asked her father if she could be a Lord and he replied “You will marry a Lord,” her reply to that was “That’s not me.” Those three words were enough to show her vision, that she was no ordinary girl who dreamed to get married to some prince in a faraway land, instead, she dreamed of becoming a queen who could easily challenge vying men and defeat them too.

Never Let Anything Kill Your Passion. Nothing!

Throughout her journey, she was determined to avenge the wrongs done to her family, and irrespective of what she went through in her journey, she didn’t lose track of her goal. She fought even when she was blind. This is the kind of perseverance that most of us lack in our lives, which is why we have the tendency of easily giving up.

Wrong-Doers Must Be Taught A Lesson

No matter who is the doer, a rich and powerful man or someone poor, an elderly person or a youngster; an offender must be taught a lesson, irrespective of his stature (especially if he is an entitled brat).

The Need To Be Bold And Independent

Make decisions based on your desires and stand by them. Make your own rules and abide by them. Break new grounds and don’t ever let anything bring you down. Know that things will work out your way eventually, so keep moving forward.

Have Faith In Yourself

One can achieve anything and everything. One step at a time, one target at a time. Just be focused, determined and have faith in your own hard work; you will easily cross the biggest obstacles.

Remember… A MAN HAS NO NAME, but A GIRL IS ARYA STARK FROM WINTERFELL.
