Elections 2019: What Is Rahul Gandhi’s Motive Behind Contesting From Two Seats?

Rahul Gandhi has filed his nomination papers from two different parliamentary seats and it is definitely a calculated move. He followed the example of similar political actions that were earlier taken on by famous personalities like Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sonia Gandhi, Lalu Yadav, and Mulayam Singh Yadav.

They did not hesitate a bit in contesting elections from two different seats. The Congress president Rahul Gandhi is now contesting on two respective seats, one from his usual Karmbhoomi and another far south, from Wayanad in Kerala.

If he has filed his nomination from this seat to wage an electoral fight against it in the state of Kerala, he meant it seriously. He even extended his heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated party workers in states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. Doesn’t his decision reflect in-depth thinking? He turned out to be a little more selective on securing exactly what the party’s political doctors suggested him to follow during this fresh time of parliamentary polls. He strongly craved for balanced support from the people. He regarded it as nothing unusual, citing the solid example of Narendra Modi who had also contested from Varanasi and Vadodara in the year 2014; but that was his first time as analysts pointed out.

Even BJP’s ideal leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee fought from three seats, Balrampur, Mathura, and Lucknow in the year 1957. Even his party men were not supposed to be wholly aware of what he genuinely intended although there were indications. It was a question which was repetitively asked in the months that followed by. The instant he moved forward with this idea, even the final declaration of victory was in his head. This appeared exactly like the ones making news headlines and also provided a solid source for television debates.

Going back to the past few years we did find out that, Mulayam Singh Yadav fought from Azamgarh and Manipur in the year 2014 while Lalu Yadav contested from Saran and Patliputra in the year 2009. This trend is nothing novel in our indigenous politics. Our politicians ingeniously calculate every political step prior to adopting the first leap for purely political benefit.

However, Gandhi’s strong opponents flayed him for this quick decision. His detractors were asserting that he was running away from his traditional seat. Since he has not done enough development work in Amethi, he thought it would be apt to wuss out to far South in Kerala. However, he has no choice but to accept their staunch criticism. It was not quite an easy task to look for another parliamentary seat. It simply indicated his confidence level was somewhere dwindling that’s why he prepared himself to try his luck from another more safer seat.
