Rapes in India

Just finished watching Delhi Crime on Netflix.

A fantastic albeit gruesome portrayal of the Nirbhaya Gang Rape case investigation.

Kept sending shivers down my spine every now and then and I bet it would affect many viewers who were emotionally involved in the Nirbhaya aftermath.

The last lines struck a chord with me though.

“The Female Victim died from her injuries 2 weeks after the assault.

Her Legacy Lives On”

New laws were made.
Articles were written.
Assurances were made.

The Nirbhaya rape case happened in 2012.

In 2016 India recorded 106 rapes per day

Rape is the fourth most common crime in India as of today.

Unnao, Kathua, Sitapur, Mainpuri, Gurgaon, Rohtak, Gaziabad.
The list is endless and the cases just keep getting added on.

Has anything changed?

Disclaimer: Nirbhaya’s legacy lives on even as a little by little some woman somewhere dies in our country every day.
