The questions that must be Answered: Pulwama Attack

The day which is marked in the calendar as a Valentine’s day. On this day couples try to cherish the whole day with their loved ones. The Parks, restaurants, Pubs are almost full of couples. On this auspicious day, many wives wished their husbands ‘Happy Valentine’s day’ but they didn’t know that this valentine would bring a lot of darkness their lives.

On this day, a convoy of CRPF vehicles, passing through the Jammu-Srinagar National highway, was attacked by a vehicle- borne suicide bomber at Lethpora in the Pulwama district. The attack claimed lives of 40 CRPF personnel. Although after couples of hours, the responsibility of the attack was taken by the Pakistan-based Islamist militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed. The attacker was identified as Ahmad Dar, a 19-year-old Kashmiri local, who worked for the Jaish group.

Since this attack, most of the media channels started their panel discussions. The questions that were framed and raised seemed either to gain TRP or to divert from the main questions. Had you have watched the TV, you would have noticed that only the emotional angles of the loss have been covered. It shows martyred are now being used by media for their TRP or to circulate a political agenda. So, the main questions are still absconding. What are the loopholes that lead to this attack? But unfortunately, none of the media houses covered such questions.

Generally, a convoy moves with a maximum of 1000 personnel, then the question is why the risk of moving with 2547 jawans altogether was taken?

The day of movement of convoy is decided beforehand. So, the information must be leaked at a certain point.

Intelligence had inputs on ‘use of IED’s’ 6 days before the attack then why the inputs was not taken seriously? Why was it ignored?

A letter written by the Intelligence Bureau on 8 February to top CRPF officials said, “please sanitise the area properly as there are inputs of use of IED’s in the valley.”

How did the vehicle, carrying around 350 kg of explosives manage to reach the convey? Why has the van not been checked at any of the check-posts?

Who has given the exact timing of movement of the convoy?

A senior CRPF official said,“We wrote to our CRPF headquarters requesting them to provide us facilities to transit jawans by air. But no one bothered to reply us.” Why the action has not been taken against the ignorance till now?

Most of the severe attack take place before the elections. So, did this attack include a political strategy?

In some respite to the armed forces, the MHA has notified air travel for central armed forces between Delhi- Srinagar, Srinagar- Delhi, Jammu-Srinagar and Srinagar- Jammu.

Making an issue political will never find a solution but pondering on the above-mentioned questions may do.
