The Tampering Of Indian Democracy

I was never much of a political person, until one day I heard a Modi fan, say that PM Modi doesn’t need to give a press conference when she was told by my mom that our current PM hasn’t given a single press conference in his entire tenure. I must say I was taken aback. My mind suddenly wandered onto my tenth class Political Science book where the basic principles of democracy have been explained, the first one being accountability.

Before reaching a conclusion, I talked to a few more hardcore Modi fans, and I got equally absurd responses. And after a lot of research and debate with them, I have realized that this Government has been very successful, in one part at least – wiping out democratic ideals from people’s minds. Which is deadly dangerous. They believe in notions like the present PM and his government shouldn’t be held responsible for Pulwama attack, that he is not accountable to the people, given he works 16 hours a day, and is very busy, things like Modi is the only option India has, one is anti-India if not in favor of the present government, in short everything which violates the basic democratic fabric. And believe me, I was scared when I heard all this. Because I could see not only the present Government fail, but also the very idea of India and its democracy at stake. And the worst part, Bhakts have no idea at all.

I also wondered, how the people of India could be fooled so easily. And I have a solid answer. Whatsapp, Facebook, have literally eaten up the brains and logic of people and made them ignorant and vulnerable. When the people of India can believe that nothing progressive has been done in the past 70 years, I think they can believe anything. They are ready to pounce on you if you speak one word against their New God, Modi (by telling you things like Sonia Gandhi is Italian, RaGa is Pappu, Manmohan Singh was a puppet, Gandhi Parivar is a Chor). And the basic democracy, where people should actually pounce on the PM for not answering our questions is missing. Very few Indians can see how brutally our institutions are being played with, how Indians are being pitted against each other, and how democracy is already missing. Others are still forwarding jokes on Pappu, on my Family Whatsapp groups.

This election is and has always been a fight for India and its tag of being the largest democracy. Don’t let some people take that away from you.
