Why are men illogical and abusive on social media?

It is pretty common to witness on social media that a larger percentage of men come out as weird, illogical, over-smart, or they jump to conclusions pretty easily. Although the trait of weirdness is not necessarily reserved to a certain sex, in comparison, the percentage of women involved in such behavior is pretty less. This may also be attributed to the fact that the percentage of females active on social media are less than active males.

Despite the mathematics, rarely do you come across women whose comments are so inconclusive, illogical or plainly abusive that it irritates you to guts. That may be a personal male-bias talking, but men much more often bombard you with unwanted expletives, uncalled hostility and irrelevant questions which subsequently either escalate the conversation into a war of words, or the conversation dies down abruptly with no concurred inference and none the wiser.

Amongst the examples are people who never try to understand what one wants to communicate in the first place, and then try to outwit you with no coherence with the topic whatsoever. If they think that someone is being vague, they rag them with their superb vocabulary of swears and finish the conversation self-satiated, leaving the other person in a dilemma what to say next! 😀 It is witnessed that the percentage of women exhibiting such behavior is pretty less. Either, they plainly don’t argue further, or they try to deal with it. Most of the times, they are aware what the person is trying to say!

Now an argument can be made here that this behavior is the by-product of patriarchy, but it actually runs deeper than these labels. According to a scientific finding, women are purported to have better communication skills and emotional intelligence than men. Women tend to be group-oriented, and apt to seek solutions by talking through issues. Men can have trouble picking up on emotional cues unless they’re clearly verbalized – making for tricky communications between the sexes.  Courtesy: Brain anatomy, male and female brain differences.

The female sex has developed the quality of understanding emotions of other people and dealing with it, better than the male sex. This may be one of the reasons why the incoherence in understanding and responding to each others’ views on social media, is less apparent in women than men. Also, according to the same study, the inferior-parietal lobule, which controls numerical brain function, is larger in males than in females. On standardized tests, men often score higher on mathematical tests than women. So here’s something on the plate for the above mentioned men too! 😉
