The Youth Would Rather ‘Netflix And Chill’ Than Watch ‘Outdated’ TV Content

The internet, as a medium, will soon replace cable TV, both globally and nationally. While the onset for such a transformation is gradual in India, it is perhaps inevitable.

The internet has truly democratized the arts and is a great news for all creative artists. From writing and directing independent small budget movies and series, to self-publishing content over the internet, it is being consumed by a diverse audience, not limited by geography or language.

The new age message from a hyper-digital world is one that values content, form and, new ideas that capture a digital generation and are rendered in formats that feed into a fast-paced lifestyle.

Nowadays, the youth is on the edge of their seats waiting for the next “webisode” and is least bothered about soap operas and reality TV shows. The foremost reason for this could be the lack of time on their hands. An episode is hardly thirty-minutes long and avoids any kind of repetition of content or characters; no one comes back to life on screen after dying once.

In a local survey, people were asked if they had subscribed to any online-streaming platform. Majority of them were Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar subscribers for entertainment purposes.

It was observed that a good percentage of the surveyed people believe that it is simply a matter of time when OTT media will replace television. Over the top-media-services have opened up and redefined content and consumption for entertainment purposes.

Well, all great inventions do become outdated someday. Maybe it’s time we make arrangements for the cable’s farewell. So long TV content!
