If You’re Yet To Cast Your Vote Do Take This Into Consideration

In 2017, October, a young girl in Jharkhand was denied ration as her family did not have Aadhar card! She died out of starvation! I urge you to not vote for those who do not value human lives!

In India, every half an hour a farmer ends his life! According to NCRB, more than 96% of them die as they fail to repay their debts! Do not vote for those who have pushed our farmers to such a pathetic condition!

8 women get raped in this country everyday! Do not vote for those who have failed to ensure security to women in this country!

In 1986, the Rajiv Gandhi government, through National Policy on Education opened the doors for large-scale privatisation of education. Since then all the parties which came to power have continued to cut the funding for education in their respective budgets! This has led to shutting down of government institutions and mushrooming of lakhs of private institutions charging hefty fees for education. Gradually, quality education has become property of those who can ‘afford’ it! Universal education is a dream as 3.6 crore child labourers exist in India today! And majority of them are drop outs! Do not vote for those who view education as a commodity and not a service!

In 1975, Indra Gandhi government-imposed emergency on people as a strong movement developed across the country against unemployment and price rise! Democratic rights were clamped down and freedom of press was thrown in the pits! Anyone who questioned government was viewed as anti-India and was imprisoned or thrown out of his job! Do not vote for those who do not respect democratic rights and oppress the people who question them!

In the last ten years, over 50 lakh crores have been waived off for big corporate houses as tax exemption even as crores die out of hunger in this country! This process started in 1991, when Manmohan Singh was finance minister and his brain child LPG (Liberalisation- Privatisation- Globalisation) was implemented! Lands were given for rich businessmen snatching away from farmers! In Gujarat, when Narendra Modi was chief minister acres of land was given to TATA company for construction of Nano cars, at the rate of ₹1/sq. feet! In west Bengal, CPM lead left front government gave away over 3000 acres of farming land to an MNC, plan was foiled only after a strong resistance from the people! After UPA, NDA government too has continued to waive off loans given to corporate houses! Even regional parties like JDS, RJD, DMK, TDP are no different! Do not vote for those who work for capitalists and not the poor!

For every 17 graduates entering job market, only three of them get jobs equivalent to their qualification! Over 40 lakh jobs were lost due to demonetisation! After LPG was introduced, in Bangalore alone over 3000 public sector units got shut down leading to loss of lakhs of jobs! Yet our governments do not implement policies for job creation! Present government promised 2 crore jobs per year, but have created only 27.3lakh jobs in 4 years! Do not vote for those who fail our youth striving for their livelihood!

For representation only

Dear first-time-voters, consider all these things when you go out to vote! Privatisation of education and health is a crucial issue! None of our big political parties have a policy on it! How can they, when most of the private medical and engineering colleges are owned by their own MLAs and MPs!? Let not caste, religion, language and region decide your vote! Remember, Vivekananda said religion has no business to formulate social laws! Bhagath Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose fought for education and politics to be kept away from religion! Today many candidates come to you seeking votes in the name of religion and caste ask them do they belong to the country of Vivekananda and Bhagath Singh, if they do, then they have no right to mix religion and politics!

Let your vote not be wasted! It’s your responsibility to discuss about policies which decide our future. Our governments formulate polices which help rich businessmen and not the common masses! Netaji said, if discussions about current affairs of the country is termed as politics then students must do politics! Remaining aloof of politics will not solve your problems!

As everything in our lives is decided by politics. Our country also has history of great politics. Politics which was done by Bhagath Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, Ashwaqullah Khan and Vivekananda! Be the followers of that politics! Remember this when you Vote!

Vote for those who are in the midst of people’s movements! Those who raise their voice against injustice! They may be fewer, yet they are the true representatives of voice of the people! Fighting against injustice is fundamental right of every citizen! Our representative in parliament should be the one who will raise our voice on the floors of parliament! This alone is real politics and it’s the duty and responsibility of every student to participate in this politics. Let these words of Bhagath Singh be your guideline!

Our education is useless and worthless and students do not have any interest in the matters of their country leaving aside world affairs. They do not have any knowledge in this regard. When they complete their studies, only a few among them go further, but even they talk with such immaturity that one can do nothing but feel regret for them. The youth who have to hold the reins of the country in the future, are at present being made mentally backward, and what the future does for us, we should realise today itself. We concede that the basic duty of the student is to study, so he should not let his attention waver in that regard. But is it not part of the education that the youth should know what the conditions are in their country and be enabled to think of solutions for their improvement? If not, then we consider the education they are receiving which will only equip them for clerical jobs worthless. What is the need for such an education? … Young people and students have liberated their countries; will the youth of India be able to save the future of their country by remaining aloof? Our youth cannot forget the cruelty hurled upon the students in 1919. They understand very well that there is no alternative to revolution. They should study, but at the same time they should acquire the knowledge of politics too, and when the need arises, they should jump into the fray and sacrifice their lives for the nation. They should sacrifice their lives for a cause, otherwise it does not seem possible to keep the nation alive!

Bhagat Singh wrote this in Kirti, a Hindi magazine, in July 1928 as a response to some suggestions that students should keep away from politics!
