Fake Digital Marketing In Politics

Hello citizens of my age, respected elders and political leaders,

I’m just a concerned citizen of India. I happen to be writing this piece not to promote any campaign or political party and neither do I want to influence anybody. Simply put, I am writing this piece in order to express my concern over the excessive use of digital media before the upcoming general elections. The elections began in April this year. Each and every citizen living in a democratic country has the right to make his voice heard. He has the right to cast his vote, but the vote should not be cast under the influence of any kind of media.

Take the example of Assam. The state has 23.1 million voters. The votes should not be cast under anybody’s influence. The right to vote and bring a government to power is every citizen’s right. Of late, political parties are taking a dig at their rivals through social media posts. Spicy news stories, memes, and videos can be seen taking the internet by the storm. In an era of fake news, the citizenry should avoid getting influenced. Furthermore, they should also be aware of the political gimmicks parties play in order to gain political mileage. Fake news gives rise to fake agendas. Social media has the power to turn anything and everything into a viral sensation.

There are parties sponsoring fake news. At times, even celebrities join the fake news bandwagon. Politicians use celebrities to leverage their political ambitions. It goes without saying that this is certainly not the way to go. It is the duty and responsibility of each and every citizen to keep fake news at bay.
