Narendra Modi And 57 Others Take Oath At Rashtrapati Bhavan

Modi and cabinet take oath

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovin, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Narendrabhai Damodardas Modi, who led the BJP-led NDA government to a landslide victory in the seven-phased 2019 General Election.

The BJP returned with a thumping majority for the second time in a row. The party managed to get 303 seats alone in the Lok Sabha Election summing up the numbers of the NDA to 350 seats.

The BJP leader and home minister in the last cabinet, Rajnath Singh, party president Amit Shah, senior party leader Nitin Gadkari were also sworn in as Council of Ministers among others at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Nearly 7000 guests attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 57 other ministers. The guests included the leaders of several neighbouring countries (BIMSTEC), Bollywood celebrities, sports stars and the families of BJP workers who were allegedly killed in the violence in West Bengal in the last year.

The oathtaking ceremony started at 7.00pm and lasted for almost two hours at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Arun Jaitley who was the Finance Minister in the last cabinet requested the Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to include him in the new cabinet so that he could look after his health. This will most likely pave the way for BJP president Amit Shah to take on as the new Finance Minister. BJP veteran Sushma Swaraj and Suresh Prabhu sat out of the government.
