#WhyIWrite: The Voice That I Carry Might Be The Voice Of Many

A female with too many male friends can raise a lot of eyebrows, but with time, I got pretty accustomed to that.  Having male friends has changed my perspective of the world and this is one of the most important reasons why I have turned to writing. Surrounded by people with completely different views, my failures in life, heartbreak, betrayal, wrong friends, meeting the right people and a plethora of other reasons have made me who I am today.

I don’t remember when I had started using words to express myself, though I remember the very first blog that I had written. It was related to one of the emotions all living beings carry within themselves. A writer has a unique power which many people lack. A writer can hold your interest in a subject until the time they want to. A writer can then let go of it as and when required. A writer can bore you. A writer can make you sleep. A writer can irritate you. A writer can make you unread an article. A writer can make sentences monotonous, exactly how I have been doing. A writer can make you hang on to a sentence, make twists and turns so that you might feel something will come at the end as a surprise which will blow you away and you keep waiting, but you get nothing, and there you give yourself a smile.

I was a pseudo-feminist once, but with time and gathering knowledge from other genders, I realized how wrong I was at interpreting things. They made me realize the equal stress and pressures that all genders go through which we usually, tend to neglect. I was corrected on how feminism doesn’t only mean fighting for women’s rights, but for equality of all genders.

As the youth of the nation, we desire changes in the country, starting from the very base- the society. How do we go about this? How can we bring a monumental change? Looking at the previous track records, it is a well-established fact that aspiring for change in India at any level is a tedious task, but over time, I hope, we can expect a change.

My writings on issues that I find necessary may reach only to a handful of people, but if my articles can trigger even a minute spark of fire in this country, I can say that I have succeeded and when the society would change, I can proudly say, I am a part of it. The voice that I carry, might be the voice of many people and if my words give any person the slightest of strength, I can say that I have helped a person.

As it is rightly said by, Edward Bulwer Lytton- a pen is mightier than a sword; and I hope, my words will not be mine alone.
