The final  phase of the general election concluded yesterday with 61% of voting turnout across 59 constituencies. The wave of anticipations and assumptions are up high, and that has been fueled even further with the exit polls. Not surprisingly, all the exit polls have predicted BJP-led NDA to get back to power in 2019. It has been estimated that BJP/NDA may win seats somewhere between 285-305. Apart from this Congress is anticipated to be victorious in about 128 seats and rest have been assigned to others.

BJP is likely to sweep away in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat, whereas BSP-SP mahagathbandhan can win over others in the state of UP. Kerela seats are predicted to go to UPA majorly, whereas in Bengal a fierce competition by BJP to the ruling party can be expected with approximately 16 seats going in favour of BJP. Both NDA and UPA are expected to get a very few seats in Andhra Pradesh, and TDP is the predicted winner.

So, what could be the chances that the exit polls completely align with the actual results? Well, this would not be surprising – as the fact is undeniable that massive propaganda can do wonders. Be it lies, be it communal polarisation or be it seriously flawed economic policies, none could actually dissuade voters for good. Apart from this, the issue of faulty EVMs may tell another story in the same line. With more than 90% media under their control and everything ranging from social media, movies and shows portraying the PM almost as God, a victory may not be impossible at all.

Or is it because people do not have faith in other political parties? The fact cannot be denied that mahagathbandhan lacks strong leadership and stability, so a government formed out of it would have weak survival tenure.
On the other hand, it is believed the Congress President Rahul Gandhi was not successful in establishing 100% credibility amongst the voters. However, there is no denying the fact that Rahul Gandhi’s approach towards carrying out his campaign without bad-mouthing his opponents, and his attempt at projecting issues of national concern is commendable.

So, it will be unfair to judge somebody without giving them a fair chance. Whatever would be the actual results the nation will find out in the next four days. The hope is that democracy wins over anything else.
