Children are keen learners. They learn from the people around them. They have something to learn from every person they encounter. Their mind is like a blank canvas and gets influenced by the world around them. Therefore, it is our responsibility to take good care of our children. I have met some ‘unfortunate’ children, who find it hard to keep their body and soul together. Their parents are often indulged in the struggles of everyday life. Their prime focus is making sure that they are fed, clothed, and have a roof over their head. In such situations, children often tend to follow their footsteps at the cost of their dreams and aspirations.
I have witnessed the power of positive reinforcement- Motivation helps these kids stay optimistic. One such instance occurred when I mentioned in class that I love dancing and that I am a Kathak dancer. Everyone was eager to learn the art form, and a few of these children were naturally gifted. Their movements were graceful, and their small feet were responding quite well to the classical beats. Their eyes lit up with excitement.
Something similar happened when I asked everybody to paint and draw. I could easily recognize a few artists who had a passion for mixing colours and could express themselves using art. Each child at Penchaan has a unique talent, be it dance, music, or art. Each child is a dreamer. All he/she wants is the power to dream. At Pehchaan, I could witness how their efforts resulted in spreading smiles and happiness.
