Yuvi: The Man Who Created Big Cricketing Moments

A big salute to our sixer king Yuvi for all the entertainment and cricket moments he gave us to cherish in his own style. He is undoubtedly one of India’s greatest match winners, and as a proof, we can go back to 2011 and 2007 World Cup, when Yuvi played some brilliant innings as an all-rounder.

I remember the time when there was a lot of criticism on Indian ground fielding, but Yuvi, along with players like Kaif redefined Indian ground fielding. Now India has one of the best fielding sides in the world.

I still remember the T20 World Cup 2007; the match between England and India, in between over-change of 18th and 19th over, there was a face-off with some verbal exchange between Flintoff and Yuvi, then came the 19th over of the match and Stuart Board was on to the attack. Yuvi hit six sixes in that over and not only became the “sixer king”, but also managed to create space in our hearts.

In 2011, when Dhoni hit the winning runs in Nuwan Kulasekara’s last over, the celebration and tears of joy in Yuvi’s eyes at the other end showed us how much that win meant to him.

We will always remember him for his selfless cricket, dedication and commitment. He is also an inspiration for all of us—as his journey from cricket to cancer and back to cricket is rare one.

As a cricket fan I believe the cricket icon deserved a better farewell.
