The Cricket World Cup will see new contenders for the coveted golden cup for the first time since 1996. While both teams have reached the World Cup Finals, it is the first time the two teams will lock horns with each other for the trophy. The origins of the sport have been attributed to England but they haven’t managed to lift the world cup trophy yet.
Let’s talk about team compositions. I would say that England has a good stand to make. Their openers are quietly good as compared to New Zealand’s openers. During the group stage match, England won by 119 runs against New Zealand.
From England’s side, Jonny Bairstow has given brilliant performances during group matches, and Jason Roy and Ben Stokes have also played well. New Zealand’s openers like Martin Guptil, Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, and captain Williamson have performed well during this world cup campaign. However, it felt like the opening duo didn’t play well in the group matches, and I thought Henry Nicholls and Colin Munro had not given their best yet. If we talk about bowlers then both team will get equal points. New Zealand has bowlers like Boult, Matt Henry, Santner whereas England has bowlers like Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer.
Coming to match strategy, I think New Zealand should make some changes to their opening pairs because I think Munro and Nicholls did not perform too well, and they should try Tom Blundell during group matches. He was the surprise selection for the World cup. According to me, New Zealand’s squad for the World Cup should include Martin Guptil, Henry Nicholls, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, Mitchel Santner, Trent Boult, Matt Henry, James Neesham, Tim Southee and Lokie Ferguson.
On the other side, England’s squad should have Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eion Morgan, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Liam Plunket. To me, it seems like the English team is stronger than New Zealander’s. Their pace attack is most probably fine, their opening pair has been performing well, the middle orders are also quietly fine, so New Zealanders need to put some more efforts in their batting line up, and I also think that New Zealand’s pace attack is maintained, but the opening pair haven’t been up to the mark.
It seems like in this World Cup, England does have the ability to win, but even a small mistake could prove harmful to their chances. We mustn’t underestimate New Zealander’s pace attack either.
As both teams eye a maiden world cup title, it will definitely be a match that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats!
