In India, Mumbai is one of the top cities that everyone wants to live in and have their jobs in. Usually, Mumbai city is the victim of floods every year when the monsoon rains combine with a bad irrigation system. The continuous rainfall fills the city with water and causes traffic jams, putting the city in trouble. In spite of this problem, air pollution is being allowed to become another menace in the city.
According to a recent report, the permission limit of the particulate matter PM2.5 is higher than the previous years. PM2.5 40ug/m3 is the annual permissible limit, but in 2017, Mumbai’s PM2.5 was 58ug/m3 and 65ug/m3 in 2018 which is beyond the annual permissible limit.
Experts say the air quality index increases every year, which means the quality of the air in the city is getting polluted. This is an invisible killer that will affect the health of the people in the city. If an efficient action plan is not put in place, Mumbai will become another Delhi.
So far, there is no action plan from the government and associated authorities against air pollution. We must remember this is on its way to become a serious issue for the city.
