For An Introvert Like Me, The Written Word Is Cathartic

How It All Started
There are times when you need someone to listen to what you have to say, and sometimes, just the act of talking to someone makes one feel vulnerable because it feels like giving them the power to control you. That is when we discover something that is buried deep inside us, and it becomes our way to express ourselves. For some, it is painting, sketching, dancing, singing, etc, and for me, I chose writing.

An introvert, it has always been difficult for me to express the things that I feel, until I started writing, and later throwing it in the trash. It helped me gain some peace and this is the first piece of advice I give to anyone who is going through the same dilemma.

Reading Poetry

I have always been fond of reading English and Hindi poetry and used to copy my favorite ones to the back of my notebooks! Reading poetry always gave me a sense of joy and helped me discover the deeper meaning of things. Moreover, it is always calming to find that there is someone who knows how you are feeling and expressed it so beautifully when it is difficult for you to express the same, and for others to understand you. You feel understood, you feel a sense of belonging.

Writing Is My Catharsis

I never thought of becoming a writer, sometimes things naturally happen to us when we least expect it. I discovered poetry at a time when I was going through the worst phase of my life. I never knew how beautifully pain could be described until converted into poetry. I started writing down my good and bad experiences and how I would see things and tried to compose rhymes or sometimes free verses. I still don’t call myself a perfect poet but it is just something that I love. It always feels good when people appreciate you and even better when they tell you about how your poetry made them feel understood and helped them to see things in a new light.
