Are Open And Dissenting Discussions In Academic Spaces A Thing Of The Past In India?

The beauty of learning is in learning myriad and hybrid topics, which should be vividly backed by the unconventional methods like Socratic discussions (open/critical discourses), counter-facts presentation (not fake news) of data/information and scientific reasoning (apocryphal attitude) in the academic space, without fearing the ‘lynching mobs’, to improve the overall and interdisciplinary structure of education and mental liberation.

Other than social conditioning received from parents, religious communities, media discussions, WhatsApp forwards and ‘Mann Ki Baat’, critical consciousness can alone reinvent the faith and hope in the civility of knowledge, wisdom and mankind. The science of critical consciousness begins with the apocryphal attitude towards nescience, ignorance and conventional thinking. Unfortunately, the epoch of today’s environment hints a signal that is turning out to be a huge setback on the social cognition of many.

When the learner pretends to learn, nothing could be bitter than the production of fake learners. The health of today’s political atmosphere is abundantly dependent upon the supply of indoctrination. It starts with the system of syllabus design, in academic space, irrespective of the damage the parents have done to the mind of pupils, followed by a peculiar pattern in the cultivation of pretentious knowledge. Its repercussion is seen in the establishment of ‘spiral of silence’ when one attempts to counter the mainstream narratives.

The current government is quite interested in modi-fying the content of the syllabus. History, economics, sociology and nevertheless natural science is about to witness a knowledge system that India had never imagined since the Indus Valley civilisation. Gone are the days of open and dissenting discussions in academic spaces. To question what you see and hear is considered unpatriotic.

In the episodes of my experience in this profession, I feel sorry for India. The India that India was supposed to be, is leaning towards becoming a nation of monotonous views, bigotry and cultural nationalism. As a student, a decade back, I never concluded any opinion on politics, economics, etc. Library, and not a temple, continues to be the source of knowledge cultivation but however, the genre of present trends demonstrated by the students makes me more cynical than a sceptic. Heretical views are softly murdered every day.

Education is not determined by a certificate, instead, it is evident in the attitude (behaviour) of the educated. India’s altitude is solely dependent upon the aptitude of attitude, only if it ‘contains’ the emerging influence of unscientific thinkers, casteists and orthodox mentality, in her capacity. For all these views articulated here, I have already faced insensitive and indifferent behaviour from my opinionated colleagues and students in the academic sphere. Refute me at your discretion, but the alarm cannot be ignored to gratify your ignorance.
