Islamic State Claims Responsibility For The Blast At A Kabul Wedding

A brutal bomb blast took place on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at a wedding in Kabul, Afghanistan. 63 people were killed and 183 were seriously injured. The blast had happened in Western Kabul where the Shia Hazara minority stay and the place is near Darul Aman Palace where President Ashraf Ghani decided to celebrate Afghanistan’s Independence Day. The Islamic State (IS) took the responsibility for this deadly bomb blast.

Three suicide bombings have happened in the district before. Taliban took the responsibility for an attack in which at least 14 people were died and 145 were wounded.

But this time Taliban has refused involvement. President Ghani has described this incident as barbaric and also blamed the Talibanis to provide a platform for terrorists. Hundreds of guests were gathered in a marriage hall. The groom, who lost his brother, friends and other relatives is in shock along with bride and the rest.

It has been seen that Sunni Muslim militants along with Taliban and IS have repeatedly targeted Shia minorities. There is no justification for such intentionally brutal incidents that mostly target women and children.

Tensions have risen on the street of Afghanistan due to the US-Taliban peace talk. It is a sensitive time as the US and Taliban are in the final stages of negotiating a deal that would allow the US to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan.

But on the other side, it will prove to be the worst decision for Afghanistan. If the US withdraws its troops then it will give more potential to Taliban and other terrorist groups to gain their power again. Most importantly, citizens of Afghanistan once again will be forced to live under the threat of terrorists.
