The Internet Boycott Of Food Delivery Apps Reveals Exactly What’s Wrong With India

People making despotic and bigoted requests to brands, in order to suit their biased mind is very common, and they do so because they think it’s possible to get away with it.

It started with Ola cabs when a person named Abhishek Mishra posted this tweet:

The app tweeted this reply which got applause from across the sphere:

Some time back, something similar happened where a person tweeted to Zomato asking them for order cancellation as the delivery person was a non-Hindu.

“Just cancelled order on Zomato they allocated a non-hindu rider for my food they said they can’t change rider and can’t refund on cancellation I said you can’t force me to take delivery I don’t want don’t refund just cancel.”

Following this, Zomato tweeted:

Zomato won appraise from across the quarter for making such a bold statement.

The Zomato founder also tweeted saying:

The rival brand Uber Eats took the stance to support Zomato. Although, rival Swiggy played safe by not commenting, probably looking catch the customers who uninstalled the other two apps.

This received numerous praises from across sphere, many couldn’t take it in a similar way. Following this, many started tweeting of uninstalling Uber Eats and Zomato. The hashtags #UninstallZomato, #UninstallUnberEats #BoycottZomato was trending for some time.

This bigoted, racist hatred spread across the internet, which was echoed by many others. This is scary because it showed that many people around us carry the same bias as that of Amit Shukla, who tweeted to cancel the order. How can people believe that offering the option of halal meat is the same as demanding your delivery person belong to a particular religion?

Indians often like to sit and call out the United States for being a racist country, but don’t forget that Indians are just as racist. Our typical desi narrow-mindedness tells us that we are biased in many ways when we discriminate someone based on caste, skin colour, and other things. People are ready to believe that their boycott will ruin the company!

When we are often at the forefront of raising our voices against racist attacks on Indians in the US, Europe, or Australia, are we ready to look at what happens in our own backyard? People want drivers and delivery person to be of particular religion and caste, will they now ask to match horoscopes as well?

The people who asked for a boycott of Zomato and Uber Eats to fulfill their biased thoughts should understand that there are thousands of delivery people on the street beating rain, sun, heavy wind, traffic and many other hazardous elements to deliver your order. Boycotting a company means all these people will lose their employment as well.

Well, religious bias stands above all! We are probably incapable of thinking of the idea India stood for: diversity in unity.
