Are Millennials Leading A Double Life In Their Hyperconnected World?

With the birth of new technology every minute of the day, the human mind is finding it difficult to keep a balance between the real and the technologically-stimulated world. Therefore, while  talking about technology, we cannot overlook the biggest boon or bane (whatever you may call it) technology has offered to us humans, i.e., social media.

There was a time when pigeons, handwritten letters and postmen were synonymous with communication—which is the mother or the root of social media. But nowadays, all of that has become extinct or is on the verge of becoming so.

There is a fine line between reality and fantasy, but with time and the increasing amount of technological invention, this fine line is being blurred. This is especially meant for the millennials because we, the millennials, are the ones being hailed as the changemakers and the rebels. And apparently, we are the ones who are much more accepting of social and technological changes. Hence, while we are busy trying to accept the ever growing changes, we are losing the ground of reality beneath our feet. Thus, failing to distinguish reality from fantasy.

Are we not living a double life then: one which is so well tainted with the colours, glitz and glamour of our fantasy and the other which is our real life—consisting the plain necessities of human life? A life where well-edited and technologically-painted images of the fantasy world have no place. It is almost as if we are split into two personalities: one where all our desires, dreams, passion and fantasies are finding a voice, and the other where we are the humble, obedient children of our parents.

The question is, do our parents know us? Do they know the person living in the fantasy world?
